Organizing

Organizing Workers and Growing Opportunity in Las Vegas

Organizing has always been an important part of UA Local 525’s mission in Las Vegas and across Southern Nevada. As the region has grown, Local 525 has worked to bring skilled plumbers, pipefitters, welders, and HVAC/R service technicians into the union so they can build lasting careers with strong wages, benefits, training, safety standards, and a voice on the job. This effort is not only about increasing membership; it is about raising standards for the entire industry and making sure workers have the support and representation they deserve.

Local 525’s organizing efforts help connect experienced workers and new apprentices with responsible signatory contractors who value skill, productivity, and professionalism. By organizing workers and contractors in construction, service, maintenance, refrigeration, commercial, residential, and industrial markets, Local 525 helps create more opportunities for union members while strengthening the workforce available to meet the needs of Las Vegas contractors and customers.

A major part of that work is showing non-union workers that there is a better path forward. Through Local 525, workers can gain access to apprenticeship opportunities, journeyman upgrade training, industry certifications, safer working conditions, healthcare and retirement benefits, and the solidarity that comes from being part of a skilled trade organization. For many workers, organizing means moving from simply having a job to building a career with long-term security and pride.

Local 525 also organizes to protect the standards that generations of members have built. When unorganized employers lower wages, ignore training, or cut corners on safety, it affects every worker in the industry. By organizing the unorganized, Local 525 helps prevent exploitation, expands market share for union contractors, and keeps more work in the hands of trained professionals who understand the importance of quality, safety, and accountability.

In a fast-growing city like Las Vegas, organizing remains essential to the future of the pipe trades. From major Strip developments and public infrastructure to hospitals, schools, data centers, industrial facilities, and service work throughout the valley, Local 525 continues to advocate for a workforce that is trained, respected, and prepared for the future. Its organizing efforts carry forward the same responsibility that has guided the United Association for generations: to organize workers, protect the trade, and leave the industry stronger for those who come next.
