                      Happy New Year!

Dear Brothers & Sisters,

It has been an exciting year with lots of ups and downs. We are experiencing the largest construction boom in the history of our Local. I believe this year is a pinnacle point for our industry; there are so many important issues that are ahead us we must face them with an open mind and be prepared for changes that will make the difference for our generation and the generation that follows us. The reemergence of the Standard of Excellence will make our UA strong, and place us in the market place as a viable source of qualified professionals that will get the job done on time and under budget, thus regaining market share. Through training the best hands and organizing, we will take back our industry from the nonunion.
I believe that we are on the verge of the reindustrialization of the United States of America, if we do not take back our industry we will have failed. The time is now to step up and participate in our endeavor to take back what our fore fathers of the labor movement fought and died to achieve, a fair days work for a fair days pay.
We as members of this great United Association must be willing to go that extra step to make sure that the product that we put our name on is far superior to our nonunion competitors. By taking care of the contractors that employ us, we are taking care of ourselves. It is no longer we against the contractors. It is our business partner and us together. If they succeed, we succeed. Therefore, in the years to come it is our responsibility as UA members to be the best business choice for our current contractors and the many that will choose the UA Craftsmen to be there partners.
Our future is bright. With all the work on the horizon it is going to be a challenge to staff the work that is coming to our jurisdiction; we can expect another great year, with lots of challenges. We have some industrial work and the Las Vegas strip is booming and does not seem to be slowing down. The challenge of staffing all this work and gaining market share at the same time is a huge undertaking and I would like to thank our Organizing Depart for their hard work and dedication. I would also like to thank our Training Department and the JATC for all that they do to secure our future. Overall, I thank all of our Brothers, Sisters and Traveling Brothers for great year of service and hope our next year is as prosperous as the last; I hope you all have a Wonderful New Year.
                                                                                           Fraternally Yours,
                                                                    Matt Lydon
