The Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 525 recently became part of a free, centrally located, top-of-the-line health clinic that offers primary care, preventative care, pharmacy and laboratory services that cover the majority of basic health needs.  This modern facility staffs six dedicated full-time medical professionals and is open six days a week.  The clinic is available to all members of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Health Plan beginning October 1st, 2013.  

The Construction Industry Health and Wellness Clinic is located at 7135 West Sahara Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89117 and open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, Saturday from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm and closed on Sunday.  Both appointments and walk-ins are welcome.

Services

Dr. Mo Son and his team offer you and your family the best in primary care and preventative care, including the following services.

Primary Care: Allows you to have one central physician driving your health care who also can review any follow-up treatments or care performed by an external specialist.

Preventative Care: You can obtain physicals, well woman check-ups, vaccinations/immunizations and other preventative services including tobacco use cessations counseling and others.

Pharmacy:  You are able to get basic medications like antibiotics and allergy medication immediately following appointments.

Laboratory:  You receive real-time, in-house testing and results of samples and cultures taken at the facility, and the clinic lab also can honor orders from outside physicians.    

Staff

The Clinic employs a dedicated full-time doctor, one full-time and one part-time nurse practitioner and three medical assistants.  Dr. Mo Son is the Medical Director for the center, where he is involved in both clinical practice and patient education outreach.

Dr. Mo Son - He received his medical degree from Ross University in Dominica, West Indies and completed his family residency at St. Vincent's Catholic Medical Centers of Brooklyn and Queens, New York.  He is board certified in family medicine and has special interest in physical fitness.  He is a member of the American Academy of Family Practice Physicians.

His prior positions include Staff Physical at UMC Quick Cares and Medical Director at Harrah's Health and Wellness Center.  A northern California native and University of California alumus, Dr. Son earned his bachelor's degree in Chemistry from UC Davis.

FNP Sheryl Hiller - Sheryl Hiller, Family Nurse Practitioner, Board-Certified, is full-time with the Construction Industry Health and Wellness Clinic in Las Vegas, Nevada, where she is involved in both clinical practice and patient education outreach.

She received her Master's degree in Family Practice from University of New York at Stony Brook.  She completed her Bachelor's degree in Nursing at University of Nevada Las Vegas.  She is board certified in family medicine.

Her prior positions include Staff Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatric Services at the Clark County Detention Center.  Prior to that she served as the Director of WestCare Community Triage Center, a drug and alcohol detox and rehabilitation center.  Sheryl has also worked in Family Practice and Urgent Care.

FNP Uzma Quereshi - Uzma Quereshi RN, MSN, FNP-BC is a Faimly Nurse Practitioner, board-certified by the American Academy Nurse Credentialing Center, and licensed by the state of Nevada to provide family-centered healthcare to patients of all ages.  Her scope of practice encompasses health promotion, disease prevention, diagnosis and management of common and complex health care problems beginning in childhood and continuing throughout the aging process.

After graduating from West Suburban College of Nursing with a BSN in 2005, she began her career in healthcare as a registered nurse working in an emergency department for 3 years and in the medical surgical unit for 2.  Afterwards she received her MSN as a FNP from Loyola University Chicago in 2012.

Uzma strives to provide the best health care possible.  She believes in building a long lasting and trusting relationship with patients.  She seeks to acquire a comprehensive evaluation of every patient by taking time to listen and understand their particular needs.  Her desire is to empower patients to take control of their own health by making healthy lifestyle choices.

Can my family also see the doctor there?

Yes, the clinic is open to all eligible Local 525 members and their dependents.  A variety of services are available for your family, including well-women checks and pediatric services.

Why should I use the services at the Clinic?

The Clinic is a convenient place for you to obtain preventive and sick care as well as health coaching and condition management.  There are several benefits for using the Clinic:
  • Time - The medical team is both thoughtful and thorough for your appointments and walk-in visits.  They will take as long as needed to address your concerns yet the exclusivity of the clinic means much less waiting.
  • No Waiting - This is like having your own private clinic - no more long waits at a Quick Care Clinic or having to schedule an appointment weeks in advance.
  • Cost - No cost for visiting the Clinic.  Healthcare and coaching services are free if you are covered by the Plumbers & Pipefitters Health Plan(s), except Medicare Primary Retirees.
  • Convenience - Fast access to care for diagnosis and treatment of illness or injury.

What services are available for me at the Clinic?
  • Primary Care - For a wide variety of common illness such as sore throats, headaches, skin problems, infections, sprains and strains, blood draws, prescriptions, and medication dispensing.  The clinical staff will also coordinate care with a specialist if needed.
  • Assessments - Health screening for cholesterol, blood pressure, glucose levels, height, weight, and Body Mass Index (BMI).
  • Coaching - For personal health issues or concerns including weight loss, stress management, tobacco cessation, physical activity.
  • Disease Management - For diabetes, heart problems, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and lower back pain.
  • Website - Personal health record, health information, and tools and resources for a healthier life. 

Can someone at the Clinic help me manage my ongoing medical conditions, such as diabetes or heart disease?

Yes.  There are many conditions that can be managed by the clinical staff, including diabetes, COPD, asthma, congestive heart failure, coronary heart disease, hypertension, and low back pain.  The clinic will provide resources and help coordinate care not available at the clinic.

What pharmacy services will be available?

The Construction Industry Health and Wellness Clinic will have basic medications available at the Clinic, including frequently prescribed antibiotics, allergy medications as well as a variety of over-the counter medications, such as Advil and nasal spray.

What are the Clinic's hours?

The Construction Industry Health and Wellness Clinic is open 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  The clinic is closed on Sunday. 

Do I need an appointment:

Walk-ins are welcome.  Appointments are especially helpful (but not required) for Nurse-Practitioner and Medical Assistant visits - they allow staff to better plan our day, reduce waiting times and accommodate the most patients. 
 
Is there a doctor available or on call?

Do I have to stop seeing the doctor I already use?

The Construction Industry Health and Wellness Clinic, Dr. Son and his staff are all available to our members at no cost - you will pay no co-pay, co-insurance or deductible.  They are extremely well qualified healthcare providers, and because their patient pool is limited, they will get to know you and your family in a manner that most physicians cannot do.  That said, you are not required to end the relationship you have with your local doctor.  It is our desire that our members have access to premium care in the most affordable manner.

Are records kept confidential, and who sees them?

All health records are confidential.  They are only viewed by the Construction Industry Health and Wellness Clinic staff.  Information regarding your condition cannot be released to anyone without written permission.

Can part-time employees use the Clinic?

All eligible healthcare plan participants of Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 525 can utilize the Construction Industry Health and Wellness Clinic, except Medicare Primary Retirees.

Where can you obtain your old medical information?

You can obtain your results or records from past physicians, place of employment, educational facilities or a hospital (if you were in-patient).

Why do we need vaccinations?

Vaccines not only prevent and protect you and your family from a number of possible illnesses; they are Nevada State Law for the school systems.  Outbreaks of various diseases, which can be eliminated or minimized by vaccines, are a matter of public health which can kill or disable people.

Do I have to pay for medications?

The Clinic offers free to you a basic pharmacy stocked with antibiotics, allergy management, and supplements. For any medication that the Clinic does not carry in stock, a prescription can be written, if appropriate.

Does the Clinic offer emergency care?

No.  All emergency issues should be handled by 911.  If the condition is less serious and the Clinic is closed, patients should visit a local Urgent/Quick Care or consult providers in your insurance network.

Does the Health and Wellness Clinic cover dental problems?

The Clinic currently does not offer these services but staff will assist you with making appointments with a local dentist of your choice.

Does the Health and Wellness Clinic cover vision problems?

The Clinic currently does not offer these services but staff will assist you with making appointments with a local optometrist or ophthalmologist of your choice. 

Who operates the Clinic?

Marathon Health is our onsite health center partner, dedicated to bringing quality health services to members and their families at the workplace by providing medicare care, guidance to help better understand health risks and conditions, and support to help people manage their health.  Marathon Health operates health centers nationwide, with a focus on helping people become more active in their own health and healthcare.
